Dr. Mukherjee, the founder of the Khale Pehla Development Center, shares her experiences and achievements in working with differently abled children, specifically those with Down Syndrome and mental retardation.
Dr. Mukherjee discusses her educational background in social work and how her journey took a turn when she got married and moved to a backward area in Madhya Pradesh. It was here that she discovered the term Down Syndrome and realized the need for special education for these children. With limited resources but a determined spirit, she started her first school with just 14 children and two teachers.
But Dr. Mukherjee's dedication didn't stop there. She pursued her PhD in mental retardation, becoming the first person in her field to achieve this feat. She also discusses the challenges she faced, including the loss of her mother and the impact of intellectual disability on families.
Despite these challenges, Dr. Mukherjee's passion for helping differently abled individuals and their families shines through. She talks about the importance of emotional support and mental health, and how she provided a supportive environment for both the children and their parents.
Dr. Mukherjee also shares the story of the Khale Pehla Development Center, a project that aims to provide a well-furnished space for senior citizens, funded by individual donors. She emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and compassion for every child, urging us to become more understanding and accepting.
