In Ep.23 I discuss a groundbreaking study conducted in 2001 that aimed to investigate if testosterone increases muscle mass in a dose dependent manner. 61 healthy young men were randomized into 5 groups. Each group had their internal testosterone production suppressed via gonadotropin-releasing hormone injections and then subsequently received weekly injections of either 25mg, 50mg, 125mg, 300mg or 600mg of testosterone enanthate for 20 weeks. The men were encouraged NOT to resistance train or undertake heavy endurance exercise during the study. The results were spectacular... in the 600mg group 8.9kg of Fat Free Mass was gained (as determined via DEXA) and 2kg of Fat Mass was lost!! Listen to the rest of the episode to find out what other interesting things this study found.
