Today, Martha wants to talk about the possibility of having fun once you have become sober. This is actually a very interesting topic because so many people view alcohol as liquid courage to go experience a situation that would otherwise be awkward. Once that drink is in your hand, it can be a downhill slide after that, especially if you have addictive tendencies. Inevitably, the morning after is always a nightmare that has you thinking, “why would I do this to myself?” It’s a scary process but once you become sober you will have to relearn how to have fun and have conversations while sober, but once you do you will realize that you don’t need to drink or do drugs to have fun! In this episode Martha speaks about: Inevitably going from sober to completely blacked out Reasons that people relate alcohol to social events Relearning how to deal with fun situations while sober Sometimes the simple answer is all you need Changing your focus when you go to an event Telling yourself lies about how alcohol makes you better Importance of enjoying the little things in the moment Answering the “sober fun” questions Aiming your creativity in a productive direction Practicing doing things that you want to do without alcohol Feeling trapped into drinking to have fun and be around people Remembering what you enjoyed as a kid Links to Resources: Facebook Group: Step Up in Recovery – A safe place to grow and receive support.
