My husband and I wouldn't still be together 21 years later after we first met if we didn't communicate and compromise with each other. Now you might be thinking well my partner gets their way all the time and I don't get to do what I want to do. Well then communicate and compromise with something that you want to do and what whey wants to do. Say lets do both and both enjoy whatever it is that you are going to do. I see this a lot with my clients, one doesn't want to communicate because they feel like they will get shouted at etc so then they just go along with it and don't compromise due to feeling that way. This then gets out of hand because they are not speaking up in a their relationship. The way to get out of this vicious circle is to sit down with each other and actually talk. Talk about what it is that is you specifically want from the relationship. Be really specific. If you wanted to go out more and go to pubs, say it. If you wanted to go out for walks more, then just say it. If you want more intimacy then just say it. You need to trust in your partnership that things will get better. It might take a lot and you might get frustrated and cry which is fine. Crying is good as it is releasing all the negative tension and energy. But you need to have an end goal to and especially when you are communicating, there will be times when you want to shout and lose your temper. The best thing to do is not to shout or scream at each other. Let one person speak at a time and then calmly and quietly say what you have got to say. Then gradually you will be able to talk confidently and quietly to each other and find some compromise somewhere. You never know you might even enjoy what your partner wants to do.
