Music
This week your rock n’ roll vampires suck on the neck of a long-forgotten genre that emerged in the late 80s – early 90s. A genre that exploited obscured vocals, guitar distortion, effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume: SHOEGAZE. Primarily based in the UK, these bands used the artistry of guitar innovation to paint some wonderfully layered sonic canvases! If you have a preconceived notion that you don’t like this stuff, we ask that you give this episode a shot as you might be surprised how much it rocks…What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we focus on the FORGOTTEN. If you were into this music when it came out back in the early 90s, chances are that you haven’t revisited it in a while. Come along on this ride with us and spend the next 90-min staring at your feet! We hope we re-introduce some of you to these bands and turn others on to something completely new!Songs this week include:Swervedriver – “Blowin’ Cool” from Mezcal Head (1993)Ride – “Here And Now” from Nowhere (1990)Drop Nineteens – “Limp” from National Coma (1993)Catherine Wheel – “Kill Rhythm” from Chrome (1993)Lift To Experience – “These Are The Days” from The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads (2001)Kitchens Of Distinction – “Sand On Fire” from Capsule: The Best Of Kitchens Of Distinction 1988-1994 (1994)My Bloody Valentine – “Only Shallow” from Loveless (1991)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you want to hear Robert and Kevin’s band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert’s amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you’d like to check out Kevin’s band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/
