One of the key skills to being a great manager is to know how much to give when to give it and what to give. If you become a leader, manager or coach who imparts wisdom when it is appropriate and necessary, you will have a greater impact. If you just give irrelevant information all the time, people will not listen. As a leader, you need to know what is going on in your team members’ lives, if they are in a good place, what challenges they are going through and how you can facilitate them best. The question we always have to ask ourselves is ‘how may I serve?’. Leadership is all about facilitating other people and their success. It is not about pandering to what you want or your ego, it is about overcoming your ego drivers so that you can help others along the way. That is what real successful leadership is about. If you want your team members to go the extra mile, put in more effort and do more, then you will have to do it yourself to show them and be the example.
