Marybeth and Marcia have a chat with Katie, a deaf powerlifting college student at UMASS. Katie schools us on accessibility tips for deaf / hard of hearing folks, what it’s like living with hearing aids, navigating deaf culture as someone who doesn’t sign, and achieving body acceptance through lifting heavy ass weights. Remember friends! Deaf and/or HOH? You are valid whether you sign or don’t, lip read or don’t, have hearing aids or don’t! Hearing folks? CAPTION YOUR VIDEOS. Hosts for this episode: Marcia Darbouze (@thatdoc.marcia), Marybeth Baluyot (@merrbertt) A message from DGWL: We do our very best to ensure we are inclusive to all members of the community. Not very many podcasts consider the deaf and hard-of-hearing population, but we applaud those who do and challenge those who don’t. That said, we are looking for volunteers to help us transcribe future episodes--there are transcriptions available online for our current episodes--but we still need help! Please send us a message on our website--www.disabledgirlswholift.com--if you have transcribing experience and are interested in joining the crew! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/disabled-girls-who-lift/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/disabled-girls-who-lift/support
