The setting for the events of Salem's Lot is the modest and unassuming town of Jerusalem's Lot, also referred to as "Salem's Lot" by the residents. Strange and unsettling events begin when Kurt Barlow and Richard Straker, two enigmatic people, show up. The fact that Barlow is a vampire with a long past and that Straker is his human helper is unknown to the villagers. It becomes more obvious that evil forces are at work when more residents vanish or fall unwell for no apparent reason.
