Leader Manager Coach Podcast

Miscellaneous

One of the most important skills a leader, manager or coach can have is the ability to facilitate greatness in their players or mentors, join Rob today as he explains the tools needed for you to develop great people and players. Rob discusses the importance of starting afresh after a tough day, how to know when you need to step away from a situation and why it is fundamental to always do the right thing as this will serve you well in the long run.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Always remember that even if you have faced difficulties in your training session, the next day is a brand new start. We have to start a ‘new’ every day, that is one of the beautiful things about life. No matter how low we have dropped or how much we have failed, we can begin again tomorrow. With young players, you have to try and get them to trust themselves. One of the great dilemmas in sport is the role of the coach and deciding how much freedom to give them to help them develop. It is fundamental to realise that every player is an individual, they have to be allowed to touch their greatness and not be what somebody else wants them to be. It is completely valuable to be aware of the compulsions of the social world that we live in. We have to be reminded consistently that our energy belongs to us and it is for us to decide what we do with that. If anybody is going to be successful they have to focus and you have to be focused to facilitate the success of others. Sometimes we work extremely hard and do as much as we possibly can to achieve something, and it doesn't work out the way that we want it. Sometimes there comes a time when the best thing to do is to let go, step back and allow it to happen. The momentum will be too strong and we will fritter away our energy trying to change something that already has momentum. As you get a little bit of wisdom, you recognise where momentum is. You will find yourself riding the momentum and learn when to step in and step out. Constantly paddling upstream is a way to burn out. Remember it is all about the process. It is the process that forges us, that defines, that distils us and it always happens in baby steps. After each baby step comes another one where we are allowed to renew and start fresh again. BEST MOMENTS “We define success as creating great people.” “Yes we’re leaders, yes we show the way but actually, are we just there to bring out the best of people?” “All I need is a good listening to..how true is that?” “Above all else, do the right thing.  VALUABLE RESOURCES Leader Manager Coach Podcast The Stoic Art of Living: Inner Resilience and Outer Results - Tom Morris  ABOUT THE HOST Rob Ryles is a UEFA licensed coach with a League Managers Association qualification and a science and medicine background.
