For Rachel Sawicki, a University of Delaware senior majoring in communication, living in a democracy means having freedom of expression. It's a right worth defending when compared with the authoritarian policies of other countries. Rachel is a finalist in the Speak Up! Audio Essay Contest, hosted in fall 2019 by UD's Center for Political Communication. Students submitted 2- to 4-minute recorded essays, considering these questions: What does democracy mean to you? Where do you think democracy is headed? How do you fit in? How do you see your role as a citizen in our democracy? Learn more about the CPC's programs and initiatives at www.cpc.udel.edu.
