- BSP MP Afzal Ansari and his brother Mukhtar Ansari have been sentenced to 4 and 10 years in prison respectively in a 16-year-old case. In addition, a penalty of ₹5 lakhs was imposed on Mukhtar and 1 lakh on Afzal. Afzal might lose his parliament seat as well.
- 11 people died and 9 were hospitalised after a gas leak in Ludhiana, Punjab. National Disaster Response Force reached the site along with experts to determine the cause of the leak.
- Today, Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape said Indian PM Narendra Modi and U.S. President Joe Biden will meet the leaders of the Pacific Islands next month. Following China's security agreement with the Solomon Islands last year, the US has been trying to increase its influence in the region.
- Reuters reported quoting sources that U.S. regulators are trying to close the sale of First Republic Bank with 6 banks bidding for it. If this happens it would be the third major U.S. bank to fail in two months.
- Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh slammed the athletes for their protest and said that their motive is politics and not his resignation. Brij Bhushan has been accused of sexual harassment by top Indian wrestlers. In the last few days, many opposition politicians including Priyanka Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal have joined the protest.
