The US withdrawal, originally slated to be complete by August 31, has not been going smoothly. The Taliban took control astonishingly fast, seizing province after province and, finally, on August 15, they took over the capital city, Kabul.  Hannah speaks with Matt Fratus, a history writer at Coffee or Die Magazine (that's where I work) and host of the Late Night History podcast. Matt has written numerous pieces about the Taliban’s original rise to power and reign in Afghanistan during the ‘90s and offers useful context for the present situation. We also talk about the group’s impact on arts, culture and education, and discuss some books and other media people can look into if they’re interested in learning more about the situation.   Follow Matt's work: https://www.instagram.com/latenighthistory/ https://coffeeordie.com/matt/   Thank you to Jake Bassen for our theme song: https://soundcloud.com/jakebassen   As well as Cam Clawson, for our Correspondence Remix: https://soundcloud.com/camclawson7   Follow us on Instagram: @lewisandlovecraft   Tyler is @twclawson_pdx   Hannah is @thehannahray   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LewisandLovecraft/   Website: https://lewislovecraft.weebly.com/   Email: lewisandlovecraft@gmail.com
