Shelly is already thinking about her next stage at the start of the film, facing what seem like dire possibilities. She puts a lot of effort into creating a new route throughout the movie, and she also tries to make amends with her adult daughter, Hannah, who is a budding photographer and resents her. The film explores a number of mother-daughter storylines, but this one is the least interesting. Although Hannah's personality is frustrating and her persistent manner is annoying, Shelly's affection for her permits some tolerance. Hannah's greatest contribution is the insight she offers into Shelly's personality.
