Hi everyone, my name is Michal Phonix. Welcome to this podcast, and today I’m talking about an oncologist: immunotherapy for stage 4 lung cancer. In this podcast, you learn about the immunotherapy cure for lung cancer and why it's necessary for cancer. Immunotherapy does not promise a "cure" of stage 4 lung cancer but has revolutionized results, providing longer survival and better quality of life for many patients. Immunotherapy "revs up" the immune system to see cancer cells and destroy them, usually by inhibiting PD-1 or PD-L1 pathways to release the brakes on T cells. Although not all patients respond, the potential for some to show notable tumor reduction and disease control for an extended period is a significant improvement over conventional therapy. While often used to control cancer when surgery isn't an option for stage 4 disease, some individuals have had their cancer go into remission with immunotherapy, leading to surgery being considered.
