In a brand new episode of the Voice of Bengaluru, host Sowjanya talks about Bengaluru's first coffee unit - Sakamma Coffee Works.  In 1920, Sakamma moved to Bangalore from Coorg, with the intention of expanding her coffee business. She set up her household in Basavanagudi, before opening a coffee-curing and powdering unit near Bull Temple Road. As Sakamma’s coffee mix spread through her city, so did her name and fame. Buoyed by the fantastic response the venture received, the young entrepreneur set up centres in different areas across the city, earning herself the nickname 'Coffee Pudi' (Coffee Powder) Sakamma. Sakamma Coffee Works is dedicated to promoting sustainable and ethical coffee trade in India while showcasing the diverse flavours of Indian coffee, and the name Sakamma is a reminder of the rich cultural history and traditions that inspire their work. Today, the company continues to uphold its values of transparency, fairness, and sustainability and remains a beloved fixture in Bengaluru's coffee scene.
