I am a Strong Black Woman! We hear this phrase a lot. It’s usually said with a level of pride, but sometimes there is an undertone of exhaustion. We tend to wear this phrase like a badge of honor, but in reality it’s becoming another trope. The severely independent, stressed and stretched woman who powers through all things while willingly sacrificing her well being and refusing help for fear of appearing weak.
