8. Who Made That a Rule?

Business

Sometimes the big idea isn't the problem. The problem is deciding the entire thing has to happen at once.

I learned this while trying to relaunch my shop with five products. What started as an exciting idea for a collection quickly became a much bigger project, and eventually I had to admit that all of that work wasn't getting me to the thing I actually wanted: a finished product I could launch.

The five-product idea wasn't a mistake. I just needed a different pace for building it.

IN THIS CONVERSATION

In this episode of Pretty Organized, we're talking about what happens when an exciting idea becomes bigger than your capacity to carry all at once—and how to adjust the plan without giving up on the vision.

We'll also talk about the rules we quietly create for ourselves, why changing a plan can be a form of accountability, and what we can learn when reality has a few notes about the beautiful finished version we pictured in our heads.

Because sometimes you don't need to want less. You just need to stop requiring yourself to build the whole thing at once.

A QUESTION TO TAKE WITH YOU

What have you made harder by deciding it all has to happen at once?

You don't have to tear apart the whole plan. Look at what you actually want and what you've turned into a rule. The big vision may still fit you beautifully—it might just need more time than you originally gave it.

Keep the vision. Change the pace.
