What does it take to be a leader? John De Driek reveals his experiences as a cyclists and his passion for helping others succeed. In a group of ten, John says: "I rather pull the pace line and have 10 winners in my team than only one" John De Kriek was born in Bellflower, California. At 4 years old, he knew exactly what he wanted to do in life, to become a truck driver. He drove a tanker truck for 54 years. He completed his driving career at Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) where he participated in a national driving competition and became the Lead Trainer for the largest terminal. John, as an endurance cyclist, participated in Grand Tour Events that involved two and three hundred mile century rides. Can you imagine sitting on your bike for 20 + hours pedaling? John has completed 26 double centuries, 4 triple centuries, and a double-double century event which totaled 400 miles. This event lasted over 37 hours including a night in a motel. John continues to lead the Original La Mirada Flyers Cycling Team, where a ride less than 50 miles is considered a short ride. John has influenced all levels of athletes, from leisure, competitive and endurance athletes, to Hall of Fame cyclists and award-winning triathletes. John has excelled in every area of his life. He has earned the respect of his followers and at 74 years young, he continues to pedal in a way that challenges many younger cyclists.
