How do I absorb more iron? That is a question I hear and see all the time! You may feel like you’ve tried everything and you just aren’t getting anywhere. I know because I’ve been there. I’d like to share with you what worked for me and continues to work for me now: avoid blockers.   What are blockers? Well, in this episode we’ll dive into what the five blockers are and where you will find them in your daily diet. Oh, and just because you love these blockers, doesn’t mean you have to give them up entirely. Listen on for my story and my tips on how to balance the things you love and making sure you aren’t blocking your iron from being absorbed. We can do this!   Show Notes: [1:28] - How do I absorb more iron? This is a question Asia gets quite often. [1:57] - Asia’s reason for sharing this discussion today is that she wants you to go from swimming in a sea of symptoms to seeing solutions. [2:13] - Avoiding blockers is Asia’s first recommendation. Are you the car or the plane? Asia elaborates on this unusual question. [4:52] - Asia has had the experience as the car and the plane and can empathize with you no matter what you are experiencing now. [5:30] - Avoid blockers. Blockers are five things that are in our diet that block iron absorption. [5:48] - They are coffee, caffeinated tea, other caffeinated drinks, eggs, dairy, and calcium supplements. [6:46] - This is your journey and you can decide what you eat and when you eat it. But Asia shares her story about avoiding blockers. [8:01] - In the same block of time, Asia was taking an iron supplement and drinking coffee (a blocker). She was cancelling out the supplement and she wasn’t seeing any changes. [9:01] - Now, Asia changed her morning routine to make sure she doesn’t take her iron supplement at the same time as she has her morning coffee. [9:56] - In some cases, you don’t have to give the blockers up entirely (always listen to your doctor). Just make some changes to your routine. [11:30] - When you are avoiding blockers, avoid them during the iron rich source time. [12:24] - An actionable step to take now is to decide at what time will you enjoy your coffee or tea to avoid them blocking your iron rich meal or supplement. Be intentional. [13:51] - Next episode, Asia will be expanding on how to absorb more iron by adding helpers. [14:23] - You don’t have to eat the foods that “make your skin crawl.” Asia has a lot of great tips for a plant-based diet. [14:52] - Don’t forget to mark your calendars for January 10th’s energy challenge! [15:15] - The Nourish Way is a coaching community that will help you with this journey.  You are not in this alone.
