About Me Name a time when you hid something.  What was it?  How did that hiding make you feel? Into the Bible – Jonah 3:1-10 Verse 1: What was Jonah supposed to do?  Why is this the second time?   Verses 3-4: What did Jonah do, and what was the content of his proclamation? Verses 5-6: What was the result of Jonah’s proclamation of law among the people? Verses 7-9: How did the people of Nineveh demonstrate their sorrow?   Verses 10: What did God do?  Why?   Application 26 He said, “The kingdom of God is like this: A man scatters seed on the ground, 27 and while he sleeps and rises, night and day, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 The ground produces fruit on its own: first the blade, then the head, then the full grain in the head. 29 When the crop is ready, he swings the sickle without delay, because the harvest has come.” Mark 4 In Sunday’s sermon, Pastor talked about confession & absolution.  What are they?  Name the two forms of confession that we use.  What is God’s intent for confession & absolution? In Sunday’s gospel reading from Mark 4, Jesus talks about the incredible growth of the kingdom of God.  Name two ways that the growth of this kingdom might be surprising.  Who do you know today that you wouldn’t know apart from congregational life together?  What elements might lead someone to attend one church instead of a different church? Look at the verse above.  Identify the truth about the Kingdom that Jesus is telling.  What do we learn about growth in God’s church?  Describe the only two possible attitudes about the harvest in v. 29. “We should fear and love God that we … urge them to stay and do their duty."   What particular duties might a husband, wife, single person, parent, child have within the home?  How can we encourage each other to carry out our responsibilities well, and what obstacles stand in the way?  Describe the relationship between vocation & responsibility. “To the Point of Death – Christian Confession & Absolution.” Define public confession, general (or “public”) absolution, private confession, private absolution.  What is unique about confession & absolution in the Lutheran church?  Identify how proper and regular confession & absolution reinforce our Christian confession of faith. Christians confess.  It’s been nearly 1700 years since the first publication of the Nicene Creed.  What is the purpose of a common Creed like this?  Name at least three ways that the Creeds help to proclaim our faith among a congregation, to the world around us, and for the next generation.   Prayer: God, protector of all the faithful, you alone make strong; you alone make holy. Show us your mercy and forgive our sins day by day. Guide us through our earthly lives that we do not lose the things you have prepared for us in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever; AMEN.
