On this episode, the HUYH boys buckle down and get in their defensive stances - talking about how you measure it, who’s playing it, who’s coaching it, and what impact league rules are having on Defense…! Coach B has 2 champions in the Corner, squaring off in this week’s Coaches 1 on 1; E’s rapping about the global power, growth, and impact of the NBA. And, the fellas, who are always innovating, introduce their Player and Coach SpHot Lights – 2 players (1 from ea conference) and 1 coach to watch during the week on social media. All on this week’s Hoops Upside Your Head. SpHot Light Players this week: Eastern Conference – Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics. The Celtics hold the best record in the league, and while Kemba Walker is playing to form, Jaylen Brown has stepped up his game immensely – 21 ppg, 7 rbpg, 2 apg , 1 st on 51% FG, 39% 3P FG. We think he’s the difference right now. Western Conference – Karl Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wolves continue to play above early season expectations at 7-6 and holding 8 spot, currently, and big KAT is the reason why. At 27 PPG on 51% FG, 43% 3P FG, 13 RBPG, 4 APG, 1.5 BLPG and 1.5 STPG game, big KAT is stuffing the stat sheet on a nightly basis, making Ryan Saunders transition a whole lot easier. Coach – James Borrego, Charlotte Hornets Though not at .500 at 6-7, Borrego still has his Hornets punching above their weight in the East and in 7th position, currently. With unexpectedly strong play from 2nd year guard Devonte Graham – 18 PPG, 7.5 APG, 39% 3P FG, Borrego and Charlotte may be sending a message to the rest of the East that MJ may not be as bad an executive as we thought. We’ll see about that.
