Here's an old story for you - the 1860 case of extreme corporal punishment in the South East of England. Thomas Hopley 'disciplined' 15 year old Reginald Cancellor to death due to his 'obstinate' behaviour. It opened the public arena to consider how we punish children in England and the UK due to the brutality of Reginald's punishment.
