How do you heal the scars that hurt or offend you so you can move forward? Have tried unsuccessfully for years to let them go, but there are so many triggers that bring all of those memories to the surface, and it hurts just like it happened today. That was a question that was asked via Facebook and in today's podcast, I not only share my personal experience of healing the wounds of yesterday, I'm transparent about how I recently avoided a situation I knew would create a trigger and possibly put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day!The Process Of Healing Past HurtsIf there are two things I really want to get across in this message, is:1) Your healing is a process2) It all begins with forgiveness.Ouch! I know some of you have flinched about number two.I mean, why should you forgive when you're the one who has been hurt?I asked that same question and one day I learnt ... it wasn't about them, it was about me. Me releasing them and not allowing them to rent space is my mind. Making that choice to forgive is also your first step in healing those yesteryear wounds. But remember, forgiveness means starting the process of restoration, but it doesn't always mean reconciliation. There are those who will tell you to put yourself out to be in the presence of a past abuser for example, but I know that if I put my head in the mouth of a lion, I'm gonna get bitten! Yes, you've got to get past the feeling of resentment and hate, but always remember that just because you've made peace with them in your heart, doesn't mean that they've sorted themselves out. In other words, there is nothing stopping them striking again!Be sensible and exercise wisdom ... and stay focused on God, He's the author of all healing.
